Shen Hua, 93 years old, has been working out for 20 years. He spends at least one hour in gym, using high intensity exercise to slow aging.
He is called “muscular grandpa” by Chinese netizens, after his photos of working out went viral online. When Shen Hua enters a gym in Guangzhou’s Liwan District, young people greet him like meeting an old friend. Sometimes, foreigners asked him to pose for photos with them.
Shen Hua is a regular customer of the gym. Every afternoon at 3 o’clock, he comes to the gym to do exercises.
It seems a little hard for him to do chin-ups. But Shen Hua finished 10 standard chin-ups. Shen Hua said he could do at least 20 last year.
Suspension training, which develops physical strength while using functional movements and dynamic positions, is of big difficulty to exercisers. Shen Hua is capable to finish five movements in a row.
Led by Shen Hua, his son and daughter-in-law began to work out. A private trainer surnamed Hou said in his 10 years of career as a private trainer, he seldom saw men older than 70 capable to finish the TRX exercise, not to mention a man in his nineties.
It is never too late to start working out. Before retirement, Shen Hua worked as a salesman. He worked so hard that he barely had time to do exercise. After retirement, he looked after his grandson till his grandson went to primary school. Shen Hua started doing fitness exercises when he was 70 years old. His job before retirement has nothing to do with sports.
The story of this 93-year-old man tells us: it is never too late to start doing what you want to do.
