Dentist Qu Tiejun kneels to perform a 40 minute procedure on a 9-year-old because the part of her mouth affected is hidden from sight via a microscope.

The 9-year-old girl suffered from a cavity due to injury. The cavity has led to chronic inflammation and her teeth are not able to grow normally. Due to complications with the girl's situation, Qu decided to carry out an operation on her.

As the area requiring surgery is around the corner of the palate, where microscopes used in surgery are not able to reach, Qu had to wear a mirror on his head and lie or kneel down in order to keep his eyes parallel with the girl's teeth. The operation was even more intricate as to keep any impact on the girl’s looks, Qu adopted a small incision approach.

It is known that Qu insisted on carrying out an operation for the girl, although he caught a peridental abscess himself in the process.

For safety reasons, Qu administered a local anesthetic rather than general during the operation. However, the girl did not cry of pain. "I felt distressed when I noticed that there were tears on the girl's face," Qu said after the surgery. Qu treated the girl as his own child since she is about the same age as his son.

The photo of Qu performing the surgery for the girl taken by a nurse went viral online. Netizens praised Qu as model among dentists.

However, some netizens questioned that why Qu did not raise the operating bed. Qu said that surgical precision would have been affected had he done that.

The girl has recovered as expected after the surgery. Qu will keep helping the girl until she has made a full recovery.
