Chinese president Xi Jinping's upcoming visit to the United States from Sept. 22 to Sept. 25 will enhance mutual trust and focuses on cooperation. It will be people oriented and create the future, Gao Hucheng, China’s commerce minister, says in an article on People's Daily Monday.

As the "ballast stone" and "propeller" of the bilateral relations, Sino-US economic and trade cooperation is at a new historical starting point, Gao says.

When China joined the WTO in 2001, the bilateral trade volume amounted to $80.5 billion, an increase of 30 times compared with $2.4 billion in 1979 when China and the United States officially established diplomatic ties. He says the data itself is the best interpretation of the win-win cooperation.

In the new century, Sino-US economic and trade relations have entered into an unprecedented "golden period of development." In 2014, bilateral trade reached a record $555.1 billion, 227 times more than that of the earlier stage of the establishment of diplomatic relations; the two-way investment exceeded $1.42 trillion.

The 36-year history of Sino-US economic and trade cooperation shows that China and the U.S. are not rivals in a zero-sum game, but partners in win-win cooperation, Gao says.
