Recently, the video of Zhou Huzhen, a college leader, "reviewing" freshmen after their military training has gone viral online. Some comment that making "reviewing" freshmen look like a grand troop review shows the man is too much into power and status; some say it is common for school leaders to review freshmen after the military training, but it still is too weird to review the students standing on a truck.

Zhou, chairman of the board of Hebei College of Science and Technology, is a deputy of the 11th People's Congress of Hebei Province, and the president of Heyang Education Investment Company in the city of Baoding. In 2011, the Baoding Vocational College of Science and Technology founded by Zhou was upgraded and changed the name into Hebei College of Science and Technology.

Local media revealed that Hebei College of Science and Technology adopts a military academy style management. Zhou Huzhen explains that this can help students develop good living habits besides knowledge learning.

According to an official with the Education Department of Hebei Province, Zhou Huzhen’s review does not break any rules. "Private colleges usually are freer to choose ways of management," the official said.

Early in 2011, Zhou Huzhen also reviewed students in a truck. (File photo)
