President Xi’s 10 key remarks on China-US relationship

Chinese President Xi Jinping will pay a state visit in late September to the United States, his first to the US since assuming office in March 2013.

Xi frequently delivered remarks on China-US relations since he took office, through which people can better understand a new type of major country relationship between China and the US and the upcoming historic meeting between the two heads across the Pacific Ocean.

1. Differences between the two countries are unavoidable but they are not the essence of the bilateral relationship.

【Remarks】

China and the U.S. have different national conditions, different histories and different cultures as well as different paths of development. The two sides should understand and respect each other and live in harmony while maintaining their uniqueness. Differences between the two countries are unavoidable but they are not the essence of the bilateral relationship. The governments of China and the U.S. should properly handle their differences and act as stabilizers of bilateral relations.

【Remarks】

The vast Pacific Ocean has enough room to accommodate the development of both China and the US. 3Cooperation between China and the US leads to win-win results while confrontation hurts both.

China-U.S. cooperation will achieve things that are beneficial to both countries and the world, while confrontation will be disastrous.

【Remarks】  

The world is undergoing complicated changes. China and the US share important obligations to maintain world peace and stability and promote development. Enhancing dialogue and cooperation is the only choice for the two countries. Both sides should firmly maintain the correct direction of bilateral relations, respect each other's core interests and major concerns, actively expand cooperation, properly handle sensitive questions and disputes, and ensure the steady and sound growth of bilateral relations.

5The two countries cannot afford to make mistakes on fundamental issues.
