According to the written confession of Masao Kanazawa on 2 August 1954, he was born in Hokkaido, Japan in 1922. He joined the Japanese War of Aggression against China in 1943 and was captured in August 1945.

Major offences:

In December 1943: During a battle in Shandong Province, “forced one Chinese man, who was enslaved by the invading army, to step on land mines, killing him with explosion”, and “I ... took part in the killing”. In the same period, the interpreter “used a club to beat the back and knees” of one arrested peasant man aged around 45 “for 20 to 30 times”, “then I ... ordered the man to get topless and lie down on the ground, bloated into his belly six or seven cups of water using a lunch box; when his belly was bulging, stepped on it; as a result, he lost his consciousness, and he was killed after about one hour on the site”.

In January 1944: In Laiwu County, Shandong Province, when seizing the weapon of a seriously wounded soldier of the Eighth Route Army, “beat his head with bayonet and killed him”.

In May 1944: In the garrison in Dexian County, Shandong Province, “when one old Chinese woman aged around 65 (who was very weak) walked to 60 centimeters away from me”, “hit her at the chest with rifle. As a result, she fell down one meter away from me. She only managed to stand up after about one minute, then staggered for about 50 meters, and finally died in the fields”.

On 25 April 1945: In Tai’an County, Shandong Province, together with three companions, “gang-raped one Chinese woman aged around 20”.

On 16 May 1945: In Mengyin County, Shandong Province, gave the instruction to “capture a man aged around 50”, “forced him to step on land mines, and gave the instruction to kill him after he was seriously wounded; then put burning hay on his body and burned him to death”.

On 22 May 1945: In Rizhao County, Shandong Province, with a companion, “broke into a house and forced an old woman aged around 60 who was sick in bed to bare her bottom; I stuck a whole sweet potato about six centimeters in diameter and 20 centimeters in length into her vulva, and she finally bled to death”; and also “raped a village woman aged around 40”.
