More than 100 people gathered to donate blood to save a new mother's life in Jinan, east China's Shandong province on Wednesday.
The new mother was suffering from severe postpartum hemorrhage however the blood bank was facing a shortage of AB blood which was her blood type. They only had 28,000ml left on the shelves.
A message was spread online using Chinese social media Wechat and citizens rushed to offer a hand. People queued in front of the city's blood donation vehicles to donate with some even joining the team after hearing the story.
A donor surnamed Li rushed to the blood station on hearing the news.
"Saving lives is a top priority," he said.
Liu Shaohui, deputy director of the blood bank, said the woman is now out of danger and the hospital's stocks have been replenished thanks to the help received from citizens.
Liu said, the feat of Jinan citizens showed their kindness.
