To enjoy a royal medicated diet, to have a traditional Chinese medicine body check or to pay a visit to the production base of Tongrentang, the largest producer of traditional Chinese medicine -- all these activities characterized by traditional Chinese medical culture will offer overseas visitors a unique experience in Beijing.

Beijing vows to further promote traditional Chinese medicine culture by recommending Chinese medical tourism products.

“Beijing not only has rich tourism resources but also big potential in traditional Chinese medical resources. With the improvement of life standard, there is an increasing demand for tailor-made cognitive tourism. Traditional Chinese medicine themed tourism is one of this kind,” said Song Yu, director of Beijing Municipal Commission of Tourism Development

After five years’ exploration, Beijing now combines 29 demonstration bases of traditional Chinese medicine, five travel agencies and a medical committee to launch 13 tourist routes of traditional Chinese medicine culture for eight major markets, including Japanese, Korean, German, Russian, English, Spanish markets, Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan markets, and the demand of traditional Chinese medicine professionals, according to Song Yu.

Song Yu said: “As Chinese tourists go to South Korea to take cosmetic surgeries and receive anti-aging treatment in Switzerland, why can’t foreign visitors come to Beijing to try traditional Chinese medicine?”
