Uyghur killed by police after Xi'an railway attack

A man who attacks passengers is shot injured by police in railway station in Xi'an, Shaanxi province on Wednesday. [Photo from web]

Police shot and killed a man who attacked passengers at Xi'an Railway Station early on Wednesday morning.

According to the Railway Public Security bureau in the capital city of Shaanxi province, the man was seen throwing cement bricks at passengers in the ticket office around 6am and police were called.

The man did not obey an order to stop and continued his attack before being shot and injured by police who warned him several times before opening fire, sources said.

The man was sent to a local hospital where he later died. Railway police confirmed on its micro blog that the deceased was a Uyghur.

There is no information about whether passengers or policemen were injured.

The station has returned to normal and the case is under further investigation.

China's law rules that police can shoot anyone seriously endangering the life of citizens.
