Zhangmu Town of Nyalam County of southwest China’s Tibet Autonomous Region was severely hit by the violent Nepal quake and following aftershocks. Landslides and debris flows may occur at any time in this area. In order to guarantee the safety of the afflicted people, the earthquake and disaster relief headquarters evacuated the local people to temporary shelters in Shigatse and Lhatse.
About 40 kids who have been transferred with their parents from Zhangmu Town attend a temporary kindergarten that has recently resumed operation in the more than 4000-meter high settlement in Lhatse County. The teachers teach them singing, dancing, reading and writing and help them get used to the life there.
