China on Sunday urged stability in its border area with Myanmar as well as conflict-hit parts of the Southeast Asian country.

"It serves the common interests of the two nations and two peoples," Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi said on the sidelines of the annual parliamentary session in response to a question about the conflict situation by the Global Times Sunday.

The minister also reiterated that what happened in northern Myanmar is an internal matter. "We hope the conflict can be resolved peacefully," he said.

China, which adheres to the principle of non-interference in the internal affairs of other countries, has made it clear that it respects Myanmar's sovereignty and territorial integrity.

Ties between China and Myanmar, who share a border of over 2,000 kilometers, were recently upgraded to a comprehensive strategic cooperative partnership.

"We are friendly neighbors, sharing not just mountains and rivers, but also weal and woe," Wang said.

The minister also pledged continued communication and cooperation with Myanmar, to ensure tranquility along the two countries' border and safeguard the safety of both peoples.

Lincang, a city in Yunnan Province that borders Myanmar, has seen more than 60,000 arrivals of refugees since the outbreak of conflict in northern Myanmar.

China has provided the Myanmar refugees with humanitarian aid, including water and medical services, said Li Jiheng, Party chief of Yunnan Province.
