Labour and Employment
In 2013, the local employment remained healthy. With labour demand continuing to outstrip supply, the unemployment rate further declined to an all-time low of 1.8 percent.
The median monthly salary of the employed population was 12,300 patacas, up 2.5 percent over the previous year. At the end of December 2013, the number of foreign employees imported to ease local labour shortage increased by 24.7 percent compared with the figure in 2012.
The unemployment level during the fourth quarter of 2013 was 1.8 percent and underemployment rate was 0.6 percent. The labour participation rate was 73.2 percent; 79.2 percent was male and 69.8 percent was female. The total labour force was 370,000; of which 6,800 was unemployed.
