COLOMBO, Oct.29 -- Many people are feared dead after being buried alive on Wednesday following a massive landslide in Haldammulla, located between the central and southern parts of Sri Lanka, reporters in the area said adding that rescue operations were now underway.
The Sri Lankan Disaster Management Center said that over 150 people are reported missing after their homes were buried during the landslide.
Security Forces Head Quarters Commander, Central, Major General Mano Perera said that the security forces are now involved in a massive rescue operation in the area.
Several bodies have been recovered with some houses buried in over 30 feet of mud following heavy rains in the area overnight.
