YAN'AN, Shaanxi, Oct. 11 -- At least 19 people have been confirmed dead and two others injured after a landslide took place at a highway construction site in Yan'an City, northwest China's Shaanxi Province Friday evening.
Rescuers said the landslide, occurring at about 9:12 p.m., broke down eight make-shift boarding houses and buried 21 construction workers. Nine were killed on the spot. Ten injured died in hospital, and two others are under treatment.
The workers came from China Railway No. 3 Group, which undertakes the highway expansion project connecting Huangling City to Yan'an City in Shaanxi.
Local authorities have carried out geological survey in the region to prevent further geological disasters.
