On August 26, 1945, He Yingqin, Commander-in-Chief of the Chinese army, gave the order that the China Theatre was divided into 16 areas and the commanders in their respective areas were authorized to accept Japanese surrender and to disarm Japanese troops. The Eighth Route Army, the New Fourth Army and the Anti-Japanese Column in South China are not allowed to accept Japanese surrender.
