BEIJING, Sept. 8 -- China on Monday released archives of a key military victory against Japanese army in 1938, as the country marks the 69th anniversary of the victory against Japan's aggression.

This is the 15th part of the series released daily by the State Archives Administration beginning Aug. 25.

In September 1938, the Japanese army launched an attack on Wanjialing in east China's Jiangxi Province and was besieged by more than 100,000 Chinese army.

The Japanese army had been isolated in the mountainous region with their supplies completely cut off for days, while the Chinese army succeeded in intercepting Japanese reinforcements in early October.

The Chinese army initiated the final offensive on Oct. 7 and killed most of the Japanese army in the three-day battle.

The battle, named the Victory of Wanjialing, was one of China's three major victories during the early stage of its war against Japanese aggression from 1937 to 1945. The other two were the Battle of Pingxingguan in north China's Shanxi Province in 1937 and the Victory of Tai'erzhuang in east China's Shandong Province in 1938.

China has officially set Sept. 3 as the "Victory Day," to mark Japan's surrender on Sept. 2, 1945.
