BEIJING, Aug. 28 -- A senior political advisor from Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region stood trial in Yanbian in northeast China on Thursday on charges of taking bribes, the Supreme People's Court (SPC) said.

The Intermediate People's Court of Yanbian Korean Autonomous Prefecture in Jilin Province heard the case against Li Daqiu, former vice chairman of the Guangxi Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference.

According to the prosecution, from 2003 to 2013, Li sought benefits for others and illegally accepted a large sum in bribes from others during his tenure as the Communist Party chief of Hezhou City in Guangxi and as vice chairman of the region's political advisory body.

Li also took bribes indirectly through his son, it said, adding that the total sum received in bribes totaled 10.95 million yuan (1.78 million U.S. dollars).

The verdict will be delivered on another day, said the SPC.

Li was expelled from the Communist Party of China and public office for discipline violations on Sept. 4, 2013.
