Garbage bins at a subway station in Berlin, Germany, June 7, 2014. (Photo/Xinhua) In Germany, domestic waste is classified into four categories: general household waste, plastic packaging waste, paper products waste and biological waste. In practice, the guideline is applied in greater nuance: glass bottles and electronic waste need to be handled separately; paper napkins fall into the biological, rather than paper products category; broken mirrors and red wine bottles are considered different types of waste; and light bulbs, wine glasses, tea cups and glass bottles don’t go into the same garbage bin. |
