The 3rd World Peace Forum (WPF) – In Pursuit of Common Security: Peace, Mutual Trust, and Responsibility will be held in Beijing on June 21-22, 2014, according to secretariat of the Forum Yan Xuetong at a press conference Friday.

"We believe that although the security dilemma in international relations, in which heightened security of one state can lead other states to feel insecure can't be eliminated, it can be overcome through joint efforts of the human kind," said Yan, who hopes this forum will inspire new thoughts and concepts to promote peace, mutual trust and responsibility and achieve common security of the world.

Also known as the Tsinghua Forum, the WPF is a high-level non-governmental international security forum organized by the university in joint hands with the Chinese People's Institute of Foreign Affairs. Attended by retired government officials, diplomats, and leaders of major think tanks from across the world, it offers a platform to discuss international security issues and search for constructive solutions.

"A majority of our guests don't hold positions in the governments; therefore the forum will be less about iterating official positions and policies than about international relations veterans speaking their minds and putting forward new ideas and concepts that may help overcome the security dilemma faced by all states," Yan said.

According to the agenda released at the press conference, a wide range of topics will be discussed at the forum, including Asia-Pacific regional security, China-US relations, Japan's China policy, the Korean Peninsula and non-traditional security issues.

Former Chinese foreign minister Tang Jiaxuan, former Malaysian prime minister Abdullah Badawi, former French prime minister Dominique de Villepin, former Japanese prime minister Yukio Hatoyama, former Russian Security Council secretary Igor Ivanov, and former EU High Representative for the Common Foreign and Security Policy Javier Solana are on the list of the forum guests. China's State Councilor Yang Jiechi will deliver the opening speech at the opening ceremony and a video speech by Henry Kissinger is scheduled to be played at the ceremony.
