The National College Entrance Examination, commonly known as Gaokao, is an academic testing event held every summer on Chinese mainland which are joined by millions of participants, the majority of whom are high-school students.
The Gaokao is an important exam for those who have accomplished high-school education and seek to study in universities, colleges and other higher educational institutions.
A total of 9.4 million Chinese students have registered to attend the country's national college entrance examination, which falls on June 7, 2014.
The number of participants in the exam increased by 270,000, or 3 percent more than that of the previous year, according to statistics revealed by the Ministry of Education.
