Sydney promotes creative industries at CIFTIS

Beijing, May 29 (People's Daily Online) – Representatives from New South Wales are promoting the emerging and established creative and digital businesses based in Sydney and New South Wales at China Beijing International Fair for Trade in Services (CIFTIS) opened on May 28, 2014.

When delivering a speech at the promotion meeting, Lord Mayor of Sydney Clover Moore highlighted the City's innovative and future-focused services in higher education, screen production, architecture and tourism and the opportunities for business connections across Asia.

While the export of natural resources currently makes up the bulk of Australia's trade with China, the Lord Mayor said China's rapid development is providing increasing economic opportunities for Sydney's creative and knowledge-based businesses.

"As China's extraordinary transformation continues, we want to expand our relationships with China and find new areas where we can work together for our mutual benefit," the Lord Mayor said.

She said central Sydney is home to a high density of creative industries so she wants to let businesses from all parts of the world know about the opportunities and build lasting partnerships. From film to fashion, from architecture to education, these growing creative industries offer top quality services that businesses across the Asia-Pacific region can benefit from.

As the centre of Australia's media industry and film industry, Sydney has such distinguished film-makers as Peter Weir, Baz Luhrmann and George Miller, while international movies produced in Sydney include The Matrix trilogy, The Great Gatsby and Star Wars. It is home to leading musicians, artists and actors and actresses including Nicole Kidman, Cate Blanchett and Russell Crowe.

The global consulting firm AT Kearney put Sydney ahead of 83 other cities, including London and New York, after studying the size of their international student population for its 2014 Global Cities Index.
