Armed with assault rifle
SWAT officers have to carry nearly 15 kg equipment. In addition to their regular “eight pieces”, they wear tactical vests with the word “Police” in English and a Daikaifula helmet. Their heaviest weapon is the QBZ-95 rifle they carry. The rifle fires 5.8x42mm small-caliber high-velocity bullets.
“We are now authorized to pull the trigger immediately when facing any terror attack. No more warnings before shooting," said a front-line patrol officer who now carries a type 92 handgun with a double issue of ammunition.
Fu Zhenghua, Beijing's police chief encouraged police officers to improve their shooting skills - taking a target down with one bullet - during his inspection of the combat force at Beijing railway station on May 6.
Officers have clear roles
When a squad encounters any riot or violence, the leader will act as a negotiator if there is no direct threat to life, and aim to distract the attention of the target. Another special officer will approach the target and wait for a chance to take him down. The third uses a portable device to record the scene as evidence.
