U.S. Aircraft Fly Low Over Kabul in Morning Raids Sunday

U.S. fighter jets flew low over Kabul in Sunday's early morning raids, dropping at least four bombs around the Afghan capital, but producing no response from the Taliban air defense, according to news reaching here from Kabul.

Loud explosions were heard pre-dawn from the east of the city, residents were quoted as saying.

They also reported at least one slow-moving, heavier plane was over-flying the city -- suggesting the powerful AC-130 ground attack planes which the U.S. had also used previously against targets in the Taliban stronghold of Kandahar.

Despite the planes flying low over the city, there was no sound of anti-aircraft fire from the Taliban.

However, in the evening of Saturday, the Taliban forces had fired anti-aircraft guns for about three hours at slow-moving aircraft and helicopters at intervals of some 20 minutes, they added.
