32 Killed in Bus Plunge in Xinjiang

A bus in the Chinese province of Xinjiang plunged into a river killing 32 passengers, it was reported on Saturday.

Police said the bus, travelling from Urumqi, the capital city of the Muslim-dominated province, to Xinhe County in the west, veered off the road into the river on Friday "due to the fatal operational mistake of the tired driver".

Six passengers among the 42 people on board the 29-seater bus managed to escape before it sank but rescuers were still searching for three others still missing, according to the local police.

Officials from the Ministry of Public Security and Xinjiang's regional government have gone to the site to investigate the tragedy.
