Cambodian Population to Grow by 3 Million by 2006

Cambodia's population will grow by another 3 million between 2001 to 2006, according to local newspapers on Thursday.

The increasing of the Cambodian population has affected the resources of the country, as the growing birth rate means more mouths to feed so it could have an impact on poverty reduction, U. N. Population Fund's officials said.

Today, the country has a population of more than 12 million.

Phnom Penh's annual growth rate in population exceeds the regional average, estimated by a U.N. report to be 3.57 percent.

The authorities have encouraged the people to implement family planning and put more fund in the aspect.
