US Says New York Talks with DPRK Useful StartThe meeting between the United States and the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK) in New York on Wednesday is a useful start, the State Department said."The meeting was business-like and a meaningful beginning to the dialogue process," State Department spokesman Philip Reeker said of the meeting between Jack Pritchard, U.S. special envoy for Korean peace talks, and Li Hyong-chol, DPRK's permanent representative to the United Nations. "Mr. Pritchard is expected back in Washington this evening. We expect our discussions to continue," Reeker said. He gave no details of the content of the meeting, which was the first since U.S. President George W. Bush took office in January. Facing increasing domestic and international pressure, the Bush administration announced earlier this month that it had wound up a lengthy review and decided to resume security talks with the Democratic People's Republic of Korea.
