Shenzhen to Upgrade its Old Industries

To maintain its leading position in China's opening-up drive, Shenzhen is to upgrade its traditional industries and seek more co-operative opportunities at home and abroad.

The machinery industry for example, the city's second largest industry after electronics, has taken the initiative to improve production by holding technical seminars and attending international machinery exhibitions.

To boost the sector's development, a new high-tech industrial moulding park will be established later this year to lure international manufacturers to the city, sources from the Shenzhen Machinery Association revealed.

So far, Shenzhen's machinery industry covers six major sectors in fields such as metallic manufacturing, transport equipment, electric material production, instrument production and general mechanical equipment.

Its industrial output value reached over 40 bilion yuan between Japanary and October last year,up 12 per cent on the previous year.
