Common Santana Remains Popular in China

Despite the unveiling of Santana 2000 and Passat sedan by Shanghai Volkswagen Corp. designed after the common Santana type, which was once considered outdated, proved to be extremely welcome on the market in China.

This common type of Santana, the first and basic product by the company, broke the record in sales volume in January, and helped the Santana series seize half of the car marketing shares in the country.

Latest statistics show that the total sales volume of the Santana series reached 18,000 in January, accounting for just 50 percent of the car market, about 10 percentage points higher than that in the same period last year.

About 7,000 common types of Santana, a type introduced into China from Germany, belong to the early 1980s, surprisingly, was sold, making itself a best seller nationwide.
