Construction of 2nd Phase Sat-Control Center Started
The Satellite-Control Center of APT Satellite Holdings Ltd. started its second phase construction on January 9.
Set up in Tai Po, Hong Kong, the center costs about HK$220 million and covers an area of over 50, 000 sq. m, with a construction area of over 60,000 sq. m. It will provide telemetry, tracking, and mandatory services for the APSTAR-V satellite and accommodate its three antennas. In the meantime, a brand new data center for civil telecommunication service will be built. The whole project will be completed by the end of 2001.
He Kerang, president of the APT Satellite Holdings Limited, said the construction will help utilize APSTAR-V to provide customers with high-quality telecommunication and broadcasting service. The APSTAR-V is scheduled to launch in 2003.
