Russia Reaffirms Consistent Contact Policy with Japan

The recent Japanese cabinet reshuffle will not shift the ongoing political contacts between Russia and Japan, Russian Foreign Minister Igor Ivanov said Tuesday, December 5.

Ivanov said the slight change will not affect the Japanese Foreign Ministry, meanwhile inviting his Japanese counterpart Yohei Kono, who is staying at his original post in the reshuffle," to visit Russia before the end of this year or at the beginning of the next year."

The Japanese Prime Minister Yoshiro Mori's visit to Russia will be discussed in Kono's Moscow trip, Ivanov said.

A report by the Russian Foreign Ministry also expressed the confidence that Japan will remain on the Yoshiro Mori Cabinet's " constructive course of building partnership relations with Russia. "

Mori slightly reshuffled his cabinet Tuesday by reducing the number of ministers from 18 to 17.
