Yunnan Builds New Botanical Garden

It's reported that the Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS) and southwest Yunnan Province will jointly build a "Garden of Ten Thousand Species of Plants".

In 1959, the CAS built the Xishuangbanna Tropical Botanical Garden in Yunnan. In the past 40 years, some 4,000 species of tropical plants have been introduced from home and abroad and planted in the garden which has developed into a comprehensive botanical garden that integrates scientific research, plants resources preservation, science popularization education and scientific and technological development in one entity.

In order to further preserve the resource of plants, and conduct further studies on the introduction, selection and development of cash crops, the CAS and the Yunnan government have decided that they each put an annual investment of 5 million yuan into the construction of the "Garden of Ten Thousand Species of Plants".
