"10-billion Yuan Projects" Leveraged in Chongqing
In Chongqing, six key projects to boost west development was announced on June 11, with a fund totaling 11.35 billion yuan earmarked, marking the startup of "10-billion Yuan Projects" in Chongqing.
To carry out the central authority's policy of prioritizing infrastructure construction in west development, Chongqing municipal government has decided that 20 system projects shall be completed in the first 10 years of west development. The focus is on infrastructure and ecological construction, readjustment of industrial structure, and development of science, technology and culture. "10-billion Yuan Projects" are among those going to be constructed first.
"10-billion Yuan Projects" are aimed at improving infrastructure construction and promoting opening up of Chongqing, as a virtual part of constructive work done to benefit people by the local government. There is the construction project of light rail tracks, once completed, to better serve 28 thousand commuters per hour, moving with an equivalent capacity of 400 buses. Construction of a city-wide drainage system in city proper will be of great significance in protecting the water quality of the Yangtze and Jialing Rivers and ensuring supply of pure water resources for residents' use. Natural gas piping construction will improve Chongqing's air quality and send natural gas into 400 thousand households of the city.
