Senior CPC Official Meets Indonesian Guests

Wei Jianxing, a Standing Committee member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China ( CPC) Central Committee, met with an Indonesian delegation of leaders of Islamic parties led by Aisyaah Aminy in Beijingon Monday.

Wei, also a member of the Secretariat of the CPC Central Committee, stressed that the CPC hopes to conduct new exchanges and cooperation with all major Indonesian parties on the basis of the principles of independence, absolute equality, mutual respect and non-interference into each other's internal affairs.

Wei hailed the friendship between China and Indonesia. Indonesia is one of the earliest countries to establish diplomatic ties with China, and the two countries were both advocates of the Bandung Asian-African Conference, he added.

During his visit to China in December last year, Indonesian President Abdurrahman Wahid and Chinese President Jiang Zemin reached consensus and understanding over the establishment of good- neighborly bilateral ties of mutual-trust featuring comprehensive cooperation, Wei said.

In May this year, both foreign ministers signed a joint statement concerning bilateral cooperation in the future, paving the way for the development of bilateral ties of mutual interest and cooperation, he noted.

Wei pointed out that both China and Indonesia are important developing countries. The development of friendly cooperative ties between the two countries is not only in the fundamental interests of both peoples, but also beneficial to peace and stability in the region and the world as well.

The Chinese government appreciates the Indonesian government's position on the issue of Taiwan and human rights, he added, hoping that both countries will enhance friendly cooperation and be good neighbors and good friends forever.

Aminy praised the achievements China has made since it initiated reforms and opening up twenty years ago, indicating that the achievements would have been impossible without the forceful leadership of the CPC.

Aminy also highly valued the principles the CPC advocates in governing party-to-party relations.
