General Zhang Wannian, vice chairman of China's Central Military Commission, arrived Thursday morning for a four-day official visit.
In a written statement distributed to the press upon his arrival at the airport, Zhang said his visit is aimed at promoting cooperation between the military forces of China and Portugal in various fields, thus contributing to the development of the overall relations between the two countries.
Zhang said that since the establishment of diplomatic ties between the two countries in 1979, friendly cooperation in political, economic, cultural, military, and scientific and technological fields has witnessed great progress.
The Chinese government and the People's Liberation Army attach great importance to cooperation between the two countries and the military forces, Zhang said.
