Russia Reiterates One-China Policy After New Taiwan Leader Sworn in

Russia has not changed and will not change its stand on the Taiwan issue after the new leadership of China's Taiwan province came into office on May 20, said the Russian Foreign Ministry on Wednesday.

Moscow proceeds from the fact that there is only one China in the world, while the government of the People's Republic of China is its only legitimate government, the ministry stressed in a statement.

It notes that Moscow does not maintain any interstate relations with Taiwan and develops with it mutually advantageous trade, economic, scientific, cultural and sport ties on a strictly informal basis.

The Russian Federation regards relations between the PRC and Taiwan as China's internal affair, the ministry stated.
