China's Exports of Machinery and Electronics Up

China's exports of machinery and electronic products rose 42.4 percent in the first four months from the same period last year, latest figures released by the General Administration of Customs show.

China exported a total of US$29.4 billion -worth of machinery and electronics between January and April this year, accounting for about 41 percent of the country's overall exports in the period.

The exports of major kinds of machinery and electronic products all increased. The exports of electric appliances and electronics reached US$12.5 billion, up 52.2 percent.

The exports of mechanical equipment reached US$7.8 billion, up 42.8 percent. The exports of metal products hit US$2.8 billion, up 27.3 percent. And the exports of transportation equipment came to US$2.6 billion, up 29.6 percent.

Machinery and electronic appliances have been the biggest export items of China over the past five years. Their export values reached US$66.54 billion in 1998, and US$76.974 billion in 1999.
