HK, Philippines Sign Transfer of Sentenced Persons Accord

The Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (SAR) and the Philippines signed an agreement on the transfer of sentenced persons Friday. The accord, the sixth of its kind, was signed by the Secretary for Security Regina Ip on behalf of the HKSAR government and the Philippines' Secretary of Justice Artemio G. Tuquero.

The agreement will enable sentenced persons to be transferred back to their home countries or territories to serve their custodial sentences, which will enable sentenced persons to serve their sentences in an environment free of language and cultural barriers.

The agreement will enter into force 30 days after both sides notify each other in writing that their respective requirements for the entry into force of the agreement have been complied with.
