According to an on-the-spot meeting held in Nanchang April 24, the Publicity Department of the CPC Central Committee and the State Family Planning Commission have decided to extensively carry out the activity to promote the new practice of marriage and child-birth in urban and rural areas nationwide, publicizing the scientific, civilized and progressive concept of marriage and child-birth and enhancing people's self-consciousness of practicing planned parenthood, thereby creating a good public-opinion environment for the target of population control to be achieved at the end of this century and the middle of next century.
This activity aims to establish a socialist birth culture, guide and help the masses transform their old child-birth concept, to promote the disintegration of the traditional child-birth culture and the formation of a new one. Relying on communities, the activity is oriented toward families and serves the masses, centered on the all-round development of the people.
