Lotus Award For Foreign Teachers

Twenty-nine foreign teachers working in Hunan Province in central China have received awards titled "Lotus Prize" for their outstanding contributions to the province's educational development.

At the ceremony to mark the occasion held in this capital city of Hunan recently, Greogire Vignola from Canada said that the honor is not only for the prize recipients, but also for all overseas people to China who are willing to share their knowledge with Chinese students.

Vignola has worked in the city's railway college for two years. "The honor is just like a stimulus, encouraging us to work harder," he said.

The prize was first introduced in 1995, and 96 foreign experts have been awarded the prize so far.

Over the past twenty years, the province has invited more than 2,500 foreign experts working in its 60 institutions of higher learning.
