China is drafting the law on national defense education to create greater public awareness about the nature and importance of national defense, according to official sources.
A number of forums have been held in northeastern, eastern and southwestern areas to solicit suggestions from local officials, experts and representatives from different circles.
The government department in charge of writing the draft is revising it according to experts' comments. The draft is expected to be completed within this year and will be submitted to the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress, the top legislature, for further review.
