China Macao Seminar Urges Taiwan's Reunification with Motherland

- Participants in a seminar held in Macao on January 27 said that the Taiwan question cannot drag on with indefinite duration and the tide of Taiwan's reunification with the motherland is irresistible.

The seminar was held to mark the fifth anniversary of an eight-point proposal made by Chinese President Jiang Zemin on the resolution of the Taiwan question. More than 80 people from various social sectors in Macao took part in the seminar.

About a dozen participants delivered speeches. They noted that Jiang's eight-point proposal is the actual practice and development of Deng Xiaoping's "peaceful reunification, one country, two systems" concept, and is the guiding principle for reasonably resolving the Taiwan question at the current situation.

The successful resolution of the Hong Kong and Macao issues makes the Taiwan question more outstanding, the speakers said, adding that the principles of "one country, two systems" and a high degree of autonomy in Hong Kong and Macao will surely play an exemplary role for Taiwan.

Following its return to the motherland, Macao will maintain its unique role as a bridge between the two sides of the Taiwan Straits, and will contribute more to promoting the development of cross-Straits relations and the resolution of the Taiwan question, the participants said.
