Thursday, January 27, 2000, updated at 09:11(GMT+8) China Chinese FM Lambastes Japanese Anti-China Moves The Chinese government and all the Chinese people are indignant over both the actions taken by the Japanese rightist force to distort history by denying the 1937Nanjing Massacre and an unjust verdict from the Japanese Supreme Court against an ex-Japanese soldier, Chinese Foreign Minister Tang Jiangxuan said in Beijing on January 26. He made the remarks in a meeting with Japanese Ambassador to China Sakutaro Tanino. Tang described the recent anti-China rally held in Osaka as a "perverse act" and the recent verdict of the Japanese Supreme Courtas "an oppression of justice and an open support of rightists" by the Japanese judiciary. Japanese right-wing forces on January 23 held a gathering in Osaka to openly deny the 1937 Nanjing Massacre, in which more than300,000 unarmed Chinese service men and civilians were killed. Before the anti-China rally, the Japanese Supreme Court again rejected the case of Azuma Shiro, an ex-soldier of the Japanese armed forces, who witnessed the massacre and published his diary to expose the truth of the atrocities. Since early this month, Tang said, the Chinese Foreign Ministry, the Chinese embassy in Japan and the Chinese Consulate in Osaka have time and again lodged solemn complaints with the Japanese government and the Osaka authorities on the planned anti-China gathering. China expressed its serious concern over the move and demanded that the Japanese side acts in the best interests of China-Japan relations and takes resolute actions to stop the rally. However, according to Tang, the Japanese government and the Osaka authorities disregarded China's requests, and ultimately triggered a "serious political situation."
