China State Council Meeting on Government Work Report

Premier Zhu Rongji January 26 presided over the 5th plenary meeting of the State Council to discuss a draft government work report to be delivered at the upcoming annual session of the National People's Congress, the highest legislature of China.

Those at the meeting raised suggestions on revising the draft report which will then be sent to provinces, autonomous regions, municipalities throughout the country to solicit further suggestions from local government departments.

Zhu put forward major tasks his government will focus on in the new year. The most important task is to implement policies of the central government and abide by the laws to accelerate reforms.

When the National People's Congress convenes in March, the premier called on all members of the State Council to listen to different opinions with an open mind.
