Business China's Investment Surges in Jan-Nov, 1999

Total investment in China hit 1.61 trillion yuan (about 193.98 billion US dollars) in the first 11 months of last year, a year-on-year increase of 6.8 percent, according to the National Bureau of Statistics on January 22.

Of the total, 924.82 billion yuan (about 111.42 billion USdollars) went to capital construction projects, growing 5.6 percent, and 306.28 billion yuan (about 36.90 billion US dollars) was made for technical upgrading and transformation, up one percent.

In terms of regions, Guangdong Province, the economic powerhouse in south China, had the largest amount of investment of169.11 billion yuan (20.37 billion US dollars).

Northeast China's Jilin Province enjoyed the fastest increase among all provinces and autonomous regions, with its investment surging 28.8 percent to 35.38 billion yuan (4.26 billion US dollars).
