Culture Sichuan Hosts Photo Exhibition

A photo exhibition featuring memorable events in old China at the beginning of the 20th century opened in Chengdu, capital of southwest China's Sichuan Province.

All 200 pictures on display were selected from among the 5,000 photographs taken by American sociologist Sidney.D.Gamble (1891-1968) during his four visits to China between 1908 to 1932.

Gamble, who traveled to most parts of the country, focused his lens at the daily life and local customs of ordinary Chinese people.

His pictures record many historic events in China, including the "May forth Movement" in 1919, the "May 30th Movement" of Chinese workers in Shanghai against the oppression of Japanese imperialism in 1925, and the death in 1925 of Dr. Sun Yat-sen, forerunner of China's democratic revolution.
