Culture Shaanxi Protects Frescos Found in Tang Tombs

Shaanxi Province in northwest China plans to appropriate 12.5 million yuan (1.5 million US dollars) in the next two year on building a hall in its History Museum to preserve frescos found in Tang dynasty (618-907 A.D.) tombs.

The tomb frescos feature the social and folk customs during the Tang dynasty. Sixty-six Tang tombs with frescoes have been excavated in Shaanxi. The largest fresco is 4.7 meters high and about 2 meters wide.

The Exhibition Hall, which is located underground in the History Museum, cover an area of nearly 6,000 sq m.

The tomb frescos will be protected in thermostatically controlled rooms. And a center will be established to study the frescoes, and to reinforce, repair and protect the frescoes.
