Culture Suzhou to Build China's Biggest City Park on Lake

The city of Suzhou, a famous tourist destination in east China's Jiangsu Province will build a huge park on the 7.4-sq-km lake.

Suzhou Mayor Chen Deming said it would surpass West Lake in Hangzhou in neighboring Zhejiang Province and become China's largest city park on lake.

The park will be located on Jinji Lake in the Suzhou Industrial Park and cost an estimated 1.1 billion yuan.

The park, designed by US based EDAW, will feature a square, a botanical garden, an aquarium, an art gallery and many other facilities.

Chen said that the construction of the park is part of Suzhou's effort to turn the industrial park into a modernized urban area.

The Suzhou Industrial Park, a joint venture launched six years ago between the Chinese and Singaporean governments, is designed to develop a modern industrial park replete with service industries and public welfare services. 60,000 people are expected to inhabit the Park when it is completed.
