Culture The Largest Scenic Spot with a Lake to be Built in Suzhou

Suzhou, a city in Jiangsu province, will build a large-scale municipal scenic spot, which will surround the 7.4-square-km Jinji (Golden Cock) Lake. The scenic spot will help beautify the city.

Currently, the largest Chinese park with a lake in it is West Lake in Hangzhou. But, once the park around Jinji Lake, which is 1.8 square km larger than West Lake, is completed, it will be the largest municipal park with a lake in China.

The 1.1 billion yuan project was approved by the State Development and Planning Commission last January.

According to an American company's proposal for the park, seven sectors will be built around Jinji Lake, including a large city square, a traditional style embankment, a yacht dock, a village, a botanical garden, a flower garden, an aquarium, an art gallery, an open music theater, indoor athletic facility, a business district and a residential quarter. In the middle of the lake, a small island will be built to provide a place for water sports and a vacation spot.
