Tuesday, January 18, 2000, updated at 20:22(GMT+8) China History Brooks No Distortion A small number of Japanese rightists are being reported to have already been up an attempt to tamper with the history of Nanjing massacre. The media say a large gathering known as "The Biggest Lie of the 20th Century - Check into Nanjing Massacre" is going to be held at the "Peace Center" of Osaka, Japan. At this, over 30 Chinese historians and scholars called a meeting at Nanjing on the afternoon of January 16 to voice their strong protest against such a reactionary minority in Japan. "This is complete blasphemy and wanton challenge to the Chinese people and government and all other peace-loving peoples of the world. It is absolutely impermissible by all peace-loving peoples, including the Japanese people," they said. President of the Society of Nanjing Massacre History Sun Zhaiwei said that the Nanjing massacre has been in the most concentrated way representing the cruelest and darkest crimes committed by imperial Japanese in the 20th century in China. Japanese rightists' attempts to distort historical facts will get them nowhere, he warned. Director of Memorial Hall for Japanese' Nanjing Massacre Victims Zhu Chengshan said that he has been in Japan many times and has found that the Japanese people are a peace-loving people. Since the rightists let their cat out for a gathering of the same hue, he said, many upright-minded people and civilian-run institutions and organizations in Japan have expressed their contempt at the nasty plot of the rightists. Vice President of Jiangsu Association of Social Sciences Liao Jin pointed out that facts pinpointing the heinous crimes committed by Japanese invaders in Nanjing massacre are numerous and irrefutable. Over 300,000 Chinese victims with their remains, lots of testimonials and sentences from the International Court and over 1,700 survivors have provided numerous sanguinary living evidences representing the cruelty of a most barbarous invading force as those Japanese fascist aggressor troops in China, he said. New releases from Nanjing say letters have already been issued in protest to the local media from the Memorial Hall for Japanese Nanjing Massacre Victims and the Society of Nanjing Massacre History to "Peace Center", local authorities and the municipal government of Osaka. News reports also say that people from judicial, news reporting, press and educational circles in Nanjing will call mass protests in condemnation of a small reactionary minority of rightists in Japan for their attempt to tamper with the history of Nanjing massacre. College and junior and senior middle school students will also collect signatures for protest in Nanjing. Survivors and descendants of victims of Nanjing massacre and people from other social circles will also turn out in Nanjing to blast those brass-visaged rightists in Japan in making futile attempt to tamper with the bloody history of Nanjing massacre perpetrated by imperial Japanese in the city of Nanjing.
