China Chongqing to Invest More in Infrastructure

Chongqing, the largest municipality in southwest China will invest 240 billion yuan to build 107 large infrastructure projects in the first decade of the century.

Fifty projects are already underway costing some 164.4 billion yuan. Projects include transportation, water resources development and other infrastructure facilities.

Construction of the other designated 57 projects will begin this year or the next. At present, Chongqing is building six highways. Three other highways will begin construction this year as well.

Chongqing is expected to become an economic artery linking eastern and western China with the completion of these projects.
